SAZU matriculates 4,024 new students

The Sa’adu Zungur University Gadau, Bauchi State, on Wednesday, January 28, 202,6 matriculated 4,024 students for the 2025/2026 degree Academic Session, formally admitting them into the University’s academic community.

Daily Independent reports that the Matriculation ceremony took place simultaneously at the Yuli and Gadau campuses.

Delivering the Matriculation speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau, Bauchi State, Professor Fatimah Tahir, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bala Maaji Abdulhamid, congratulated the students for gaining admission through what she said was a rigorous and merit-based process, pointing out that out of the 9,378 applicants shortlisted for admissions, only 4,024 were offered admission.

Professor Fatimah encouraged the new entrants to embrace their academic journey, saying that the University and State Government have made available facilities for their academic convenience, which should be guarded for their benefits and those behind them.

“I equally welcome parents who are here to witness and celebrate with their children and to assure them that the University is doing everything possible to uphold the hard-earned academic integrity and protect the interests of your wards.”

“The breakdown of those admitted is as follows: Faculty of Agric-335, Faculty of Arts -205, Faculty of BMS-507, Faculty of Education-461, Faculty of Law-59, Faculty of Mgt. Science 587, Faculty of Pharm. Science-58, Faculty of Science-935 and Faculty of Social Sciences-877”

” Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, out of the number of admitted students) who had registered for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, 1,434 are females, while 2,590 are males.”

“Let me at this juncture say with deep sense of responsibility and candor that, the University as a matter of policy has zero tolerance to all kinds of anti-social vices; some of the abhorred anti-social behaviors includes but not limited to the following cultism/membership of secrete society, examination misconduct, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, sorting of lecturers by female students and truancy”.

“Our duty as parents/teachers is not limited to giving you access to knowledge but also to help in molding your character so that you become responsible citizens of our country, Nigeria. Let it be made abundantly clear to the deviants amongst you that the University will not hesitate to take the necessary disciplinary measures against any non-conformist.

 

“I equally want to advise you to be security conscious and report any suspicious persons/movements to the security staff and the Dean, Students Affairs Division. It should be noted that, the Oath you have taken is an acceptance to abide by Sa’adu Zungur University’s Laws, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations as well as a promise that you will conduct yourself based on the provisions of the rules governing students conduct on campus as spelt out in students handbooks which will be given to you in due course during Faculties and Departmental orientations exercise”.

“Once more, on behalf of the Senate and the Management of the University, I wish you a successful academic pursuit. You should also note that the University/Government has made available facilities for your academic convenience, which should be guarded for your benefits and those behind you”.

“You are therefore required to give the University the needed support and cooperation to realize its vision and mission. Let me assure you that our doors are open at all times to assist you to address all your challenges within our limited resources. On academic issues, the Departments and Deanery are there for you while the Students Affairs Division shall be your first point of call with regards to other welfare issues as they arise”.

“Let me at this juncture once more acknowledge and appreciate the government of Bauchi State under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator (Dr). Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir CON. (Kauran Bauchi, Jagaban Katagum, Turakin Ningi) for the special attention accorded to education and in particular responding to all our demands as and when do”.

“I will not conclude this address without mentioning Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which constructed a comprehensive ICT Centre last year, which has been put to use at the main campus, Gadau. Similarly, our gratitude goes to TETFund, which has constructed 48 student hostel accommodations at the Yuli campus, which will accommodate female students.

” I equally wish to express our gratitude to our host community and to urge the community leaders to do more in the area of security, as we had a lot of security challenges in the previous session. It is worth noting that our students contribute a lot to the economy of the host community, which is all the more reason why we should play a role in securing the students,” She said.
